Harmful Algal Bloom

by Phil Puleo

/

about

This piece was composed to shed light on the destructive phenomenon of Harmful Algal Blooms slowly infesting our bodies of water and natural habitats.

I attempt to capture the tranquility of our pristine waters until they are abruptly affected by the heavy downpours that we are currently witnessing due to climate change. After the storm we have a false sense of security but these downpours wash agricultural runoff into the water turning into a destructive silent killer. Gradually algae blooms, sucking out all the oxygen in the water, results in a stagnant, life-less body of death.

Over time the water returns to it's original tranquility preparing for the cycle to repeat.
